Scott Troy

Retirement Specialist

Hello there, I'm Scott, and I bring over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry to the table. Before becoming a part of Ideas by Mike, I held the position of President at AMP18, where my focus centered on assisting clients in creating tax-free retirement income, safeguarding their assets, and establishing plans for legacy wealth.

My mission is straightforward: I'm here to help guide individuals in understanding their options and planning effectively for retirement. I'm known for my thorough approach, diving deep into your current financial landscape and aspirations for retirement. I'm not one to shy away from tough questions. What's your ideal retirement? What's the best-case scenario for you? How much do you envision having in your retirement accounts when you bid farewell to work for the last time? My goal is to accelerate your journey to retirement, ensuring you can enjoy more quality time with your loved ones, accompanied by ample income and the assurance that your financial legacy is secure.

Born in Brooklyn, I was raised in Va Beach (Cox HS) and Norfolk (Lake Taylor HS ‘86). I earned my B.S. in Public Relations from Virginia Commonwealth University . My financial services career began in Chicago at Aon, where I lived for 18 years before returning home to be closer to family.

Outside the office, you'll find me at the farm, enjoying quiet time with my American quarter horse, Danny Bonanza. We wander the farm, trail ride and barrel race a few weekends every year. I often bring my dog, Nolla with me to roam the farm. In addition, I like to play golf, bike, run and lift weights for fitness.

Once in a while you’ll see me at a brewery trivia night or out listening to live music with friends. If pushed into singing karaoke, you'll reluctantly hear my version of "Piano Man" by Billy Joel.

For me reading business books is essential to helping people and to my personal growth. I recently read "Eat That Frog” and “The Retirement Miracle”. Green is my favorite color. Fall is my preferred season.

Finally, my motto - “Life is rarely what you expect and mostly what you don’t. Plan for both. Keep moving toward your dreams!”
